Whether you refer to it as The Fulton Theatre, The Fulton Opera House, or as simply The Fulton, this “Grand Old Lady” is truly one of Lancaster’s treasures. For over 150 years, the Fulton, located in downtown Lancaster, has been a fixture of the theatre scene. After opening
in 1852 as a community meeting hall, it has lived on through Vaudeville, the movies, disrepair, rebirth, and now today the hosting of contemporary theatre. The Fulton is one of only a few theaters that is listed as a National Historic Landmark and is considered to be the oldest continually running theatre in the US.
My parents started taking the grandkids to the Fulton’s annual holiday show when they were just little (usually a classic musical). Some of the shows they have seen over the years are The King & I, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, and Annie. The outings have turned into a lovely and timely tradition that everyone looks forward to. Dave and I also appreciate having a night to do some Christmas shopping sans children.
